Our Word of the Day

These kids are great. Witty and super fun. Every morning, we start the day with a random word pulled out of a deck and their challenge is to find a way to use that word in some creative or natural conversation before school ends. Individual students who do it successfully throughout the day will get a prize, a piece of candy or a toy or something easy. And I don’t call it a win unless the word is truly used well. In just the last couple of weeks, we’ve had words like “plod” or “fatigue” or “hoarse.” But as you can see, today’s word was begging for a bigger scheme. So the kids all plotted, while they were outside with another teacher, that when they returned to me, they’d walk in, never say a word, and just look directly at me. I was wrapping up something else and didn’t actually notice until they were all sitting on the front carpet, no one saying anything (which NEVER happens), staring. And just as I was putting it together, one of them shouted, “Pretty good PRANK, huh?” Yes it was. Props.

Sour Patch Kids and M&Ms for everyone.
