The August Wedding

On Tuesday at recess, a couple of my girls introduced me to a beach ball that had a name, a face, and a complete backstory (think Tom Hanks and Wilson from Cast Away). By Wednesday, I was informed that the beach ball had met another beach ball and that they were getting married. I suggested the relationship might be moving a little too fast, but they were not to be deterred from the narrative they were making up in real time. By Thursday morning, two of my other girls were writing the vows on construction paper and several of my boys were telling me they couldn’t help with an outdoor project because they wanted to attend the wedding. And by the time I got outside to pick them up from lunch today, I witnessed the tossing of hand-made confetti as all of them cheered the nuptials I had just missed. These are my wonderful, creative, and happy students, shaking off the worries of a COVID-stressed world and having fun. They’re pretty great.
