Looking Inward

This week, I stayed at school until after seven for three consecutive days, first to prepare a set of reviews, second to prepare a set of tests, and finally, to grade the results of all 72 kids. But in the end, as I saw how many were still struggling, what I found myself doing, more than anything else, was looking inward, at the strategies that didn’t work, at the students I didn’t effectively reach, at how, going forward, I can still break through. Yes, there were great victories in these results, but teaching is about being relentless, about never giving up or quitting on those who so desperately need the help. Because this is what we do. We keep going.
