Much as possible, I’ve been trying to disconnect from work, from teaching, from conversations about education, giving myself over to plenty of rest, reading, writing, and reflection. But after driving home from Georgia today, I opened up my email to find this message from a former student, couple years back, a student who looked me up, found my new school address, and reminded me about the value of legacy, that what we do for our kids, as teachers, lingers far beyond the classroom. We are, indeed, shaping futures.
