They call it the little Grand Canyon, something comparable to the naturally carved regions of Arizona. But this is not Arizona, and there don’t appear to be any deserts nearby. Indeed, this is Providence Canyon State Park in western Georgia, about an hour west, in fact, of Jimmy Carter’s home town of Plains. I’ve now been to these canyons two or three times, but with each visit, I seem to run short on hours to hike, so I end up wandering a little ways into the trails before making my way back out. It’s undeniably beautiful either way.
