Lighthouses on Martha’s Vineyard
For the first time in our marriage that I can remember, we took a trip without a plan. For most of the year, Melissa’s health has been the priority and this trip, to Martha’s Vineyard, was a test to see how she would do on a flight, the pressure on her ears and her sound at higher risk of getting worse. Turns out, the chilly, rainy island life was right on tap for what she, and we, needed. To the extent that we toured the perimeter, we also realized that there were seven lighthouses to find, so we made it our business to visit them all, if possible. Some were more difficult to reach than others, but what mattered, above all, was that our journey to Massachusetts was a success. And we even learned that this was the island where the Obamas were preparing to buy another home, right up the road from where we were staying in Edgartown.
